On October 17th 2012 sixty members of the parish met to discuss the document produced by the parish for the Year of Faith. This meeting gave us an opportunity to discuss as a parish our responses to the important opportunities for renewal and evangelisation outlined in the Year of Faith that Pope Benedict XVI has declared for this year from October 11th 2012 until November 24th 2013.
This Year of Faith is a special year declared by Pope Benedict XVI and is a “summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Saviour of the World”. Porta Fidei 6. In other words the Year of Faith is an opportunity for Catholics to experience a conversation, to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him. The Pope has described this conversion as opening the “door of faith” (see Acts 14.27). The “door of faith is opened at one’s baptism, but during this year, Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover and renew their relationship with Christ and the Church”.
As a parish we will continue to explore our responses to the Year of Faith and relate that information to the congregation by means of the web site and newsletter. Please continue to look out for ongoing action and re-read again our Year of Faith booklet, available at the rear of the church on the welcome table or on the web.

The ‘Year of Faith’ will draw to a close at the end of the Liturgical Year with a special Celebration Mass on the Feast of Christ the King.
The fact that you are reading this now means that the ‘Year of Faith’ has brought for us as a Parish many blessings. Under the umbrella of the ‘Year of Faith’ we have:
- Been able to seek out the views of many parishioners in discussion and prayer.
- Create a revamped and more inclusive Children’s Liturgy and prayer corner.
- Give commitment to a Justice & Peace Group in our Parish. (See their display)
- Opportunities to invite outside speakers to our Parish. We begin with David Payne (Crew Catholic Evangelisation Organisation and Media Centre) coming to our Parish on Tuesday December 10th at 7.30pm.
- Create a Contemplative Prayer & Adoration Ministry on the 1st Thursday of the Month.
- Creating this special Parish Faith Open Weekend of renewal and prayer.
The ‘Year of Faith’ has been a blessing. If Pope Benedict called us to ‘Open the door of Faith into our lives’, Pope Francis has in his address “The Church Makes Christians and Christians Makes the Church” called us to remember in his words that:
“The Church is not distant from us, but should be seen as the totality of believers as the “we” of Christians. The Church is all of us, from the baby just baptised to the Bishop, the Pope, we are the Church and we are equal in the eyes of God! We are called to collaborate in the birth of new Christians in the faith, to be educators in the faith, to proclaim the Gospel. Each of us should ask oneself, what do I do so that others might share the Christian life? Am I generous in my faith, or am I closed? We all take part in the Motherhood of the Church so that the light of Christ may reach out to all areas of the Earth” Based on Lumen Gentum (Light for the Nations) one of the principle Dogmatic Documents of the Second Vatican Council.
